Purpose Tea is a female-led social impact company providing consumers with a new and unique beverage that allows them to do more for their health and the world. Prior to starting Purpose Tea, Chi was consulting Fortune 100 companies on brand positioning and how to align their go-to-market messaging with business strategy, but her passion to empower women started when she had just graduated college from the University of Texas in 1996. She was inspired by Half the Sky, a book by by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, describing the barriers and challenges women faced all over the world and how they overcame them. It really resonated with her because she was able to relate not only as a female, but also because her family emigrated to the United States after the Vietnam War and had challenges starting a new life. To her, it shouldn’t matter where you’re born or if you’re born a girl or boy, everyone has the ability to improve their lives if given the opportunity to do so. She understood business can be a powerful platform for change and she wanted a sustainable solution to one of the world’s most challenging problems: gender inequity.
Purpose Tea, the first bottled purple tea in the US, was launched in December of 2017 in grocery retail locations. The concept was well received and Chi was able to pick up more than 500 points of distribution in the first 7-8 months including major regional accounts like Wegmans. Now, the company is raising a seed round to fuel Purpose Tea’s growth.
